Tandridge Neighbourhood Watch Bulletin: Crime Updates and Safety Advice October 22 – November 4, 2026
Dear Residents,
Did you know you can submit footage from your security cameras and Ring doorbells capturing suspicious activity? Such footage may help our teams identify patterns and apprehend offenders.
What is Suspicious Activity?
- Someone you consider a trespasser
- Scoping out addresses
- Conducting occupancy checks prior to burglary
Burglars look for opportunities to break into vehicles and homes by finding security vulnerabilities.
Important: Do NOT submit footage where an offence has already taken place, such as:
- Entry attempted or gained into a property
- Property stolen
- Assaults
- People trying car door handles
If you have footage of an offence, please make a crime report via the Surrey Police homepage.
Inspector Rob Staplehurst, Tandridge Borough Commander
Court Result: Carer Convicted of Burglary
Hidden CCTV caught Lara Jones, 50, stealing jewellery worth £8,000 from her vulnerable client in Oxted on November 26, 2025. After suspecting Jones, the client’s family installed hidden cameras and caught her during her second shift. Police arrested Jones on December 3rd after the victim’s daughter reported the theft.
“Having someone violate your trust in your own home, at a time when you are at your most vulnerable, is devastating. The emotional impact has been profound, and it has made an already difficult situation even harder. We are immensely grateful to Surrey Police and the Crown Prosecution Service for their dedication, compassion and determination in securing this conviction.” – Victim’s family
Jones pled not guilty, but was found guilty on three counts of burglary at Guildford Crown Court on October 9th, 2026. She was sentenced to three years imprisonment and ordered to pay a £228 victim surcharge.
Detective Constable Jen Trudel said: “The family were so disheartened that someone they let into their home to care for a loved one could be so heartless as to steal from them at the first opportunity. This has made them wary of letting anyone into their home despite the much-needed respite required. It was an incredibly emotional moment for the family when the sentence was read out, and hopefully this will allow them some closure so that they can move on with their lives.”
