Help Keep Your Neighbourhood Safe This Bonfire Night π
Whether you are heading to an organised display, celebrating at home, or staying in for the evening, please take a few simple steps to protect your property, use fireworks responsibly, and look out for your neighbours this Bonfire Night.
The darkness and noise from fireworks can provide cover for opportunist burglars. If you are heading out, add home security to your checklist:
- Lock all doors and windows, including upstairs windows
- Leave a light on or use timer switches to make your home appear occupied
- Activate your alarm and CCTV
- Use motion-activated lighting around entrances and access points
- Keep keys and valuables out of sight
Alarms, secure window locks, CCTV, and motion-activated lighting can also provide additional layers of protection.
Everyone is encouraged to enjoy fireworks safely and responsibly. Fireworks used irresponsibly can cause serious injury, damage property, distress people and animals, and create a significant fire risk.
Unless they form part of an organised event run by licensed professionals, fireworks must only be used on private property. It is an offence to throw or set off a firework, including sparklers and category 1 fireworks, in a street, highway, or other public place.
Officers will be present in neighbourhoods providing a visible presence and taking action against criminality and antisocial behaviour.
If you see suspicious activity or antisocial behaviour, please report it. Always call 999 if a crime is taking place or there is an immediate risk to someoneβs safety.
