Arrests made and vehicles seized as Surrey Police targets those who use e-bikes and e-scooters illegally and antisocially in Elmbridge

Surrey Police made four arrests and seized nine vehicles as part of an operation targeting people who use e-bikes and e-scooters illegally and antisocially in Elmbridge on Sunday.

The operation included the pursuit of an illegally modified pedal bike that did not stop for officers. Led by a police motorcyclist, officers chased the rider, who was ultimately stopped. The dangerous and antisocial bike was confiscated and no longer belongs to the reckless rider.

Sgt Nick Reynolds, from the Elmbridge Safer Neighbourhood Team, said:

“We know that the criminal and antisocial use of e-bikes is causing concern within our local communities. This operation is about responding directly to those concerns and taking visible action against the people responsible.

E-bikes can be used legitimately, but when they are used by criminals to commit offences, evade police or behave dangerously and antisocially, we will take action. Our message is simple: we will not tolerate crime being committed using e-bikes in our communities.

We will continue to target those responsible, disrupt their criminal activity and, where appropriate, seize and destroy vehicles being used unlawfully.”

Residents are encouraged to continue reporting dangerous and antisocial e-bike riding to Surrey Police via their website.
